It is a gorgeous winter wonderland at our favorite spot in the White Mountains this weekend.

Franconia Inn is rarely, if ever, disappointing. We love it here (even though it might be a little old and cranky) and for most of us it is a cosy home away from home situated just north of Cannon Mountain and the Franconia Notch State Park. We discovered this idyllic New England inn in 2012 when I was hunting for a hotel with XC trails. Since then a large group of us make the annual pilgrimage on or around Super Bowl weekend.

And Bretton Woods is where I learnt to downhill ski, so these slopes are also like coming home. On a clear day the mountain has the most spectacular view to Mount Washington. We did have one major first world disappointment this weekend … Chutters, the candy store at the top of the Zephyr chair lift, is closed ! We all need to find the petition to bring it back. And for a more challenging day, there is Cannon Mountain only a few minutes away from the Inn. Both had great ski conditions with fresh snow overnight.

After hours activities at Franconia Inn …

On a final note, Franconia Inn and the White Mountains are both worth a visit in the summer. The Inn has beautiful mountain views from its porch, an outdoor pool and swimming holes perfect for a post hike swim, horse riding, tennis courts, and a glider field directly opposite. And Littleton is only 10 minutes away for a little retail therapy at Bella Junk Boutique (love this clothing shop), Lahouts for outdoor gear, followed by a visit to the Little Village Bookshop.

Have a good week everyone.

Stay warm and take care !
