It’s been so lovely and a real treat to have Polly sharing my Rockport home for the last three weekends … aka the Rockport Retreat! And just like any dear friend, it’s as if we only saw each other a month ago.

The Headlands, Rockport
Polly and I have known each other since our very early days in London at MJP, which I dare say is 28 years ago!! It’s crazy how time flies but nothing changes - we may be a little older and wiser, but we still giggle and laugh at each others silliness!

And the Rockport charm has certainly rubbed off on Polly. Our ventures have included many days at the local beaches, visits to our favorite boutique, hikes along The Atlantic Path, enjoying meals and star gazing on my terrace, and deciding on our favorite beach … with Cape Hedge Beach now edging ahead.

The haar at Hedge Beach
Hedge Beach is very very special. It feels more wild and removed than its neighbors with so few beach goers. We propped our deck chairs at the water’s edge (which is therapy in itself), swam in the surprisingly warmer waters and collected shells along the white sands for Polly’s return home.

And the paddle boards were put to good use. Not only did Polly bravely learn how to paddle on her own, I am optimistic she will be standing on the board next year.

We also found a new use for the paddle boards, which may kick off a new trend…

Dinner on a paddle board at Front Beach!
Our ventures also took us to the Rockport Music Center and an evening concert on the Castle Hill lawn on Crane Estate.

Castle Hill lawn stroll
We indulged in lobster rolls from Roy Moore’s Lobster Company, enjoyed good people watching, took in the spectacular views over Cranes Beach, and listened to some Cuban rock - which unfortunately sounded better on the website than live !!

Delicious lobster rolls!

The Atlantic Path, Halibut State Park
We even crawled out of our beds at 4.45am to capture the sunrise from Granite Pier!

And ended our days watching the sunset from Lanes Cove.

This is where we started Polly’s visit and it is essentially where it ended. Photographs cannot capture the true expanse of the very serene and meditative view.

You’ll find kids jumping off the stone pier into the water below. Boats coming in with fisherman cheering on the kids. Swallows flying over head, and cormorants ducking in and out of the water, while a small number of people sit on the edge of the pier taking in the mesmerizing ever changing sunset. It’s quite something!

I’m so pleased Polly was able to make her way here to experience this very special part of the world.
Come again, you are always welcome xx
