With Polly being here for a week, I almost feel like I am on vacation myself! The days have been long and relaxed. Yesterday we headed down to find a quiet spot on Front Beach. The water was somewhat warmer !!! So much so that I actually walked straight in for a dip for the first time this year.

Good Harbor Beach, Gloucester

Rockport and Gloucester have so many beaches to offer, all with crystal clear waters. Five minutes walk from my place toward the town you will find the rocky Back Beach, with white sands only when the tide is out. I often see scuba divers prepping their gear and heading into the cool waters from this beach.

Front Beach, only a minute along from Back Beach, has a real European feel to it with access from the town and adjacent stone harbors. It’s a lovely spot to spend the day. I persoanlly like to start my day with a walk along this beach to the stone steps leading up to the coffee shop to pick up an ice tea and freshly baked pan au chocolat from Brothers’ Brew Cafe.

Heading out of Rockport along South Street and Thatcher Road you will find Hedge Beach and Long Beach. I was unaware of these beaches until I arrived in Rockport. Both are an extension of the Good Harbor Beach coast line, each quite different from one another.

Long Beach is good for surfers and is over looked by summer cottages, while Hedge Beach is quite wild and sparsely populated. It is a rocky beach when the tide is in, but reveals a gorgeous large white sandy beach when the tide is out.

Old Garden Beach is a tiny cove ten minutes walk from the town center. This is a very special spot. Small, quiet, white sands, gorgeous views, with a lovely walk along the gardens and coastline. It is becoming my go to beach.

And I cannot forget Pebble Beach along Penznace Road. The walk or drive along Penzance Road and Eden Street are hidden gems in Rockport. Leading from The Headlands and Old Garden Beach to Whale Cove and Loblolly and Emerson Point, this is truely an off the beaten track experience giving some of the most spectacular vistas in Massachusetts.

There will be more to come on the local beaches, but for today I will settle on one of the above!
