I do love me a long weekend in Rockport! And to be quite honest I do not intend to stray far from Cape Ann this year. It is very unlike me yes, but I think that is just fine.

Sunday -
It is certainly the calm before the storm. They say we are due 10 inches of snow tonight ... you just never know here. The Boston storm reports are predictably completely wrong, but if they are right I am prepared this week - The XC skis are ready!

Monday - We have snow!
I just love it when we have a real accumulation of snow and get to enjoy it. I had Appleton Farms to myself and was breaking trails for the first hour this morning. It was cold (you warm up quickly) but gorgeous.
And if you have never XC skied before you may not know that feeling after a good long brisk cross country ski, when you get home, warm up with a hot drink, replenish the energy you have just burnt off and then that tired body feeling sets in - I love it!

On a slightly different note, what is going on with the Canada Geese? You could hear them cackling in the sky, see flocks off in the distance in the V formations and then I noticed they were landing and gathering in one of the Appleton Farm fields. Not just a few - A lot! It was very curious. Is it because there is a change in temperature? Is it mating season? A food source in the field? Let me know if you are a bird enthusiast and have an answer to this question!

Enjoy your week and stay warm, its going to be a cold one!
